When it comes to restoring and modernizing vintage air-cooled Porsche 911s, one name stands apart for its obsessive pursuit of perfection: Singer Vehicle Design. Launched in 2009 by former rock musician Rob Dickinson, Singer has rebuilt – or “reimagined,” as they prefer – over 150 Porsche vehicles, seen everywhere from prestigious concours d’elegance to “Jay Leno’s Garage.”

The 1991 Porsche 911 Singer “Greenwich Commission” rivals any previous build by the company. Painstakingly assembled over a two-year period, the car boasts top performance parts like Brembo ceramic brakes, an Öhlins suspension, and a hand-built 4.0L flat-six engine by Ed Pink Racing Engines and Cosworth. The original rack-and-pinion steering has been replaced by Porsche’s improved 993-type design.

The car is finished in classic GT Silver and now includes a reinforced chassis, carbon fiber bodywork, and a racing-style center-fill hood. Inside, the oxblood red leather interior commands attention. The rear seats were removed, and the front bucket seats include metal grommets for improved ventilation and to further emphasize the 911’s racing heritage. The minimalist dashboard with retro gauges evokes a “just the essentials” sensibility while oozing classic coolness.

Great looks aside, some vintage 911s suffer from a lack of power, but Singer’s mechanical wizards more than corrected this. Four hundred horsepower and 315 lb.-ft. of torque launch the car from 0-60 mph in a scorching 3.3 seconds.

A complete list of mechanical and cosmetic enhancements is too extensive to include here. Suffice it to say that no corners were cut in transforming this classic air-cooled 911 into the pinnacle of Porsche style and performance.

Ordinarily, prospective Singer customers must wait years to obtain a bespoke 911 of this quality; however, the 1991 “Greenwich Commission” is a rare opportunity to own one today. With only 1,747 miles driven since the rebuild, the car is in like-new condition and ready to ship anywhere in the nation.
